GSSV Donar 1881 is the student fencing club of Groningen. We are open to students of the University of Groningen and the Hanzehogeschool Groningen (until three years after graduating), and we can also allow a limited number of non-student members each year. We are a mixed club with about half of our members coming from the Netherlands, and the other half from abroad. We are also very mixed age-wise with members ranging from first year Bachelor students to PhD students and even some staff members of the University and the Hanzehogeschool. We train twice a week at the ACLO sports centre. Our training is open to people of all skill levels. If you're interested in trying fencing for the first time or you just want to see how our training sessions look, feel free to drop by! Additionally, there is the possibility to follow a five-week beginners' course, where you will learn basic fencing techniques. Check out our training page for more information!

Throughout the year there are several recurring social events such as Sinterklaas (Saint Nicolas), a club tournament followed by a BBQ in the garden of one of our coaches.
